The Box - Live in Concert!

- EvilGentleman - Sunday, August 13th, 2006 : goo

[previous] :: [next]

After meeting , the founder and lead singer of on Thursday, I really wanted to see him and the rest of the band perform live on stage. Today, I got the chance, since Jean-Marc had told me about the free outdoor concert they were doing in , which is about 15 minutes north of Montreal.

Nuut (my wife) and I drove there, parked the car in a designated field across from the fire hall (the local firemen had raised a cherry-picker from one of their trucks as high as it could go, so they could watch the show, too) and walked over to the park, where the concert was. There we found the show already in full swing, but we managed to find a place to sit, and we settled back to enjoy the show, along with a few thousand others.

I apologize for the quality of some of my photos, but it is really tricky to shoot concerts, since the flash will not work effectively, and the band tends to be moving quite a bit, which makes long exposures blurry. After a while fussing with the manual exposure settings, I managed to find the setting I wanted.

Here is some of what we saw:

After the show, we went over to where the tour bus was parked behind a fence, to see if we could see the band. Just as we were walking up to the fence, Jean-Marc stepped out of the bus. I congratulated him on a show well done, and thanked him for letting me know about it. He said he was glad I was able to make it over, and that he really liked the pictures of his bus that I posted here on citynoise. (I posted a link to the citynoise article on his blog site) Jean-Marc apologized for accidentally telling me the show started at 9:00, when it actually started at 8:30. (We did show up late, but we still had a wonderful time) I then asked if it was ok if I posted these pictures of the concert on citynoise, and he said it was no problem, go ahead! We chatted a few moments more, and then I asked if it was ok to take a picture of him again. He said ok, and suggested that he pose with Nuut.

And then we started heading home. While we were in the parking lot, the started, so we sat in the car and watched them, and then left towards Montreal.

Nuut was quite happy. She got to see a band she knew from when she was younger, got to hear them play some music that she had loved for years, as well as being introduced to some of their newer stuff, got to have her picture taken with the lead singer, and even got some fireworks as well! All in all, a great evening, and all for free!

Once again, thanks, Jean-Marc. Hope you like the pictures. By the way, if you have any pictures you want to post here on citynoise, please do. You probably have some excellent shots of different concerts, not to mention the different places you have been. It would definitely add to the content here, and you would even wind up generating a little more publicity for The Box and www.theboxband.com. Sounds like a win-win to me. What do you think?

It Will Be a Long Winter

6:00 AM. I was awakened a a weird noise. I looked out of my bedroom window which unfortunately is facing a busy street. This was what I saw: This car was slipping and sliding in what? 8 inches of snow? But...
