Trolley Tracks

I think there's something really poetic in the way trolley tracks interact throughout the city. Intersections where two lines cross create great steel curves and shapes, like unintended works of art. While there's lots of tracks in Philly that are no longer frequented by their trolleys, the ones in these pictures (taken along Lancaster Ave. and Baltimore Ave.) are still in service. The only downside - getting stuck while biking!

It has been two and a half years since the first time I journeyed to Philadelphia. I enjoyed watching the confusion on peoples face when they asked if I had been to Pennsylvania before or if I had family here: "Well, my family had lived in this area prior to them being ran out ... I mean kindly asked to remove themselves to avoid death. Aparently not a lot of people learned about what happened to the Empire Loyalists during the American Revolution. I've taken to walking along the Lachine canal in the evening in an effort to lose the winter bulges. In some places it's so peaceful I almost forget I'm in the big city. This was taken last night around 8.00 PM with my "point and shoot" Kodak, which didn't really do the colors and mood justice, but anyone who knows the area can imagine how pretty it really was.

I was amazed at how far construction has proceeded since my first post on this once neglected site. The Living Mosaic

I stumbled across this amazing mosaic sculpture garden in North Philly between Cumberland and Huntingdon, bounded by 10th & 11th Streets. This entire two-square block area has been transformed into a living mural, with lots of interesting gardens and walkways. The project is apparently an ongoing effort by neighborhood youth since 1986.
