kobe: ha ha ha! LOL!! ha ha ha ha ha! oh my god.

zuba: say =you say me... lmao!

anon: are those sticky sheets or wheatpaste or what?

Peter: 29th Apr 2005 - 19:29 GMT

theyre self-adhesive sheets... they just stick right onto the wall, it seems... theyd probably be more lasting/waterproof if wheatpasted, though.

kimberly: 29th Apr 2005 - 19:49 GMT

part of me thinks those lionel ritchey things are really weird but most of me thinks they are bloody hilarious

Lionel Richie: 29th Apr 2005 - 20:01 GMT

I’m stuck on you
I’ve got this feeling down
Deep in my soul
That I just can’t lose
Guess, I’m on my way!

jeeff: 29th Apr 2005 - 23:55 GMT

there's a gang of pranksters here in toronto who paste-up val kilmer's head everywhere, along with spraypainting his name and peace signs around. it used to be really funny when there were just one or two in out-of-the-way spots, but now they're totally ubiquitous in some parts of town and the pranksters got profiled in vice magazine, with trendy polaroid shots of them stripping naked and drinking 40s and vomiting and stuff. it's a crying shame.

Carson: 30th Apr 2005 - 17:14 GMT

To be pedantic, that last one isn't a profile; "profile" is from the side.

Ben: 1st May 2005 - 00:19 GMT

Haha that's insane.. I wonder why someone seemingly spontaneously decided to put up Lionel Richie. I'm glad they did though :)

Jamie: 1st May 2005 - 22:30 GMT

Just thought i might chip in and say "hey, that's pretty cool"

Seriously though, i'm feeling the portraits but those others look nothing like our man ritchie. But thats cool too, i think the whole idea is fucking mental. Mental in a good way. Chicken Oriental.

Peter: yay randomness! also- hi nadia! :)

Peter: 5th May 2005 - 17:43 GMT

as of last night, someone had torn down most of the lionels... actually, removed them very cleanly and carefully, as if they were going to keep them, perhaps? they stayed up about a week, and endured several heavy spring rainstorms. there are still a few across the street, though.

elaine: n.b. lionels are flared trousers in london

Peter: 5th May 2005 - 18:05 GMT

whenever i hear the name lionel, i cant help but picture lionel from "as time goes by", which is quite unfortunate. i mean, the man has jowls!

kobe: 5th May 2005 - 18:52 GMT

when i hear the word lionel, i think of those toy train sets they used to make.

elaine: why? what was the make?

Peter: 6th May 2005 - 15:54 GMT

today, when i passed the "no " sign, still emblazoned with in all his monochrome glory, there was a woman standing in front of it, trying to light a cigarette while staring at with utter confusion. it was a sublime momentary epiphany of the "art" connecting with the "viewer". i tend to think that moments like that are the primary reason why people do things like stick on public walls. it would be a shame to think that are the only place one can have such an epiphany.

Peter: 8th Jun 2005 - 18:42 GMT

--they removed the sign, as it was permanently "lionel'd"
--they put up a new sign
--sign was stickered again, with different stickers, but again permanently
--they put up a new sign
--sign was tagged with red spray enamel
--they gave up and left defaced sign
