a "new" downtown with tall skyscrapers profile and contribute to Los Angeles' world city status. East
LA Interchange, this is the intersection of the Santa Ana (I-5 south/US 101), Golden State (I-5 north),
Pomona (CA 60), and Santa Monica (I-10 west) Freeways. an aerial view found here

a new downtown?what about the old one?

i have a kind of odd association with this one -- La Defense, a large cluster of modern skyscrapers ten minutes outside Paris, the only one of its kind in the region. Paris itself has almost no tall buildings, so coming into the city for the first time a lot of people see La Defense off in the distance and think it's "downtown Paris," even though it is actually nothing of the sort. (the other thing is how often people think the Eiffel Tower is the absolute dead center of Paris -- it's actually on the outskirts, next to a rather quiet neighborhood.)

The way they're building up the whole region, though, Paris will definitely be the next LA.
