Pickled Eggs: Inside the Leslie L. Dan Pharmacy Building

- jeeff - Thursday, September 28th, 2006 : goo

[previous] :: [next]

On September 6th, the Leslie L. Dan Pharmacy Building officially opened.

www.greatspaces.utoronto.ca/projects/pharmacy.htm

It is home to the newly expanded University of Toronto Pharmacy Department, located on the northwest corner of College St. and University Ave near the Ontario Legislature building, Queen's Park. The building was designed by Norman Foster & Partners, who have also brought us the Swiss Re Tower (aka "the Gherkin") among other great buildings.

The Pharmacy Building doesn't look nearly as flashy as the Gherkin from the outside - you'd be forgiven for thinking it was just another glass box. But inside is a different story; if the Gherkin is a pickle, this one is a jar of pickled eggs - and I mean that in the best way possible.

Inside the lower egg.

And if you're in Toronto this weekend (September 30th-October 1st), there will be a light show in the lobby as part of the Nuit Blanche all-night 'contemporary arts thing', beginning Saturday at 7:01pm and ending Sunday at 7:00am.

altho in my paper on this building i think i'll argue 'incubation' rather than 'pickled eggs'.

procyon: 29th Sep 2006 - 05:36 GMT

1. is there such a thing as a pickled egg? (or, more importantly, someone who will eat it?)
2. i want to go to class in an egg like that.

this would give stanley kubrick a funny but very stimulating feeling in the pants, i'd guess. and i mean that with all due respect to you, the building, and mr. kubrick & his pants. cool post.

The name....pickled eggs....and pigs feet. When I was a kid, you would see these two items on the check-out counter of small stores in the rural south. The name envokes many memories.

Pickled eggs - oh so tasty

Leslie Dan building - the corporate bordello

Listen, it's time once and for all to put the audaciously uninformed general view that Pickled Eggs are some queer remnant of a desperate era to sleep. These puppies are the most satisfying snack you coule DREAM of- if you are clever enough to pickle them in Pickling Vinegar (almost twice as acidic as regular white vinegar) you get the burn-a-hole-in-yer-stomach sourness that puts any late-night post-beer (post-movie, post-dancing, post-popcorn) protein craving to rest. I discovered them in a bar on Dundas West called the Communist's Daughter, and was of the bias that they would be disgusting little fart bombs.... god, was I mistaken. Try them folks; not the store bought, just soak a few hard-boiled eggs in lots of strong vinegar with some dill and sliced hot peppers for 2 weeks in the fridge..... enjoy!

where do pickled eggs come frome what is its history and why do we have them in chip shops

MC Paddy O'Furniture: 25th Jun 2008 - 18:36 GMT

!
!
I Sellotape them to my legs!
And on the streets I'll sell my pegs
Cause i'm the dude that bakes the bread
