While in , I had the pleasure of feasting on plenty of , and really enjoyed it; somehow I managed to never get around to having any here in . Apparently, 's a bit famous for it, so here are an assortment of random places I passed while there... Feel free to add your own, or comments about these places, as I'd like to know which places to specifically check out (or avoid?) next time I'm in ...

ravenos: Than Bros!

garden_thereof: 3rd Mar 2008 - 16:03 GMT

seconded Than Bros. One in Ballard, one in U-district.

jameth: Than Bros. is the McDonald's of pho

Qweerdo: Listen to jameth. He's a pho-God.

wazm: Pho Bac.

iheartretards: 3rd Mar 2008 - 16:44 GMT

Pho Viet Anh on lower Queen Anne next to Bamboo Garden and down the block from the Opera house. It's the best Pho in town, I can't even palate nasty Than Brothers anymore. That shit is GROOOOOOSSSS!!! They don't use MSG either if you're concerned about that sort of thing. It's run by a husband and wife team, Husband runs the FOH wife makes all the food, it's amazing too. Usually I just sip the broth and never finish but I always clean my bowl when I go there. Plus in winter they have *spicy* pho. SO GOOOOODDD!!

Re: Than Bros being the McDonalds of Pho... seriously, I don't know how people eat that shit.

Pho Phreak: 3rd Mar 2008 - 16:48 GMT

I gotta second the recommendation for Pho Viet Anh.

than brothers makes me want to vomit. pho 900 or any number of places in the ID. I went to one last week on 14th and jackson-I can't remember what it was called, the front was all glass and there was lots of fake bamboo-what was pretty good.

The place at 14th and Jackson is Pho Bac, I believe. It is, actually, pretty damn good, though I don't go there often, for some reason. Old habits die hard, I guess.

one on Aurora near PCC, one on Capitol Hill, as well.

EvilGentleman: 3rd Mar 2008 - 17:12 GMT

I gotta ask, how did the Alaskan Amber ale taste?

pullthestars: I quite enjoy Pho Cyclo up on broadway.

Peter: 3rd Mar 2008 - 17:17 GMT

eg: i quite enjoyed the alaskan brews... you dont really see them much (ever? i never had) here in , and i always like trying new brews. i recommend it, and will definitely pick some up the next time i come across it in a local market.

Viet Nam on Broadway/Stockton in .

And yeah anything on Jackson in Little Saigon is typically good, especially when you have to have a child translate for you or point at the menu.

Pho Cyclo is greasy, overpriced but they have bubble tea.

Loree: 3rd Mar 2008 - 18:07 GMT

Viet Nam in is pretty good. Much better than Than Bros.

Jess: 3rd Mar 2008 - 19:03 GMT

My favorite pho in seattle is Green Leaf in the International District. I think it's on like 8th and king. It's cheap and tasty!

caiyuemei: 3rd Mar 2008 - 20:59 GMT

i didn't think than brothers (university branch) was that bad, taste-wise, but their menu is pretty limited (no appetizers, thus no spring rolls :'( ), and if you're eating past nine (or whenever the restaurant closes), sit with your back facing the kitchen, otherwise you'll be staring their impatient asses in the face.

little ukraine: whoa its peter!

picturepack: 3rd Mar 2008 - 21:43 GMT

Moonlight on Jackson and 19th. leave a cash tip.

fuzzytank: 4th Mar 2008 - 02:02 GMT

green leaf.

and you want the fried duck one

method: 4th Mar 2008 - 14:24 GMT

Pho Cyclo has terrible service and their Pho is so-so. I would avoid that place like the plague.

gomezticator: 4th Mar 2008 - 14:25 GMT

Thanh Vi in the U District (Ave south of 43rd) has a wide selection of dishes to go with their Pho.

Trauma Hound: 4th Mar 2008 - 14:25 GMT

Than Bros on 99 by greenlake. Don't pay attention to Jameth. You even get a desert with it.

Lady Gray: i'm on the than train

Lefty: 4th Mar 2008 - 15:16 GMT

In college, I used to eat my hangover pho at Thanh Vi on the Ave. Also where I saw my first cockroach. Don't eat there much anymore.
That space used to be a Mexican-ish restaurant run by an elderly Russian couple. The matriarch with the enormous pendulous bosom would ask "You want yellow cheese on nacho?" All these years later, I'm still not sure how to answer that question.
