its all about the pwoers that be going on a power trip. they think graffiti is subversive, possibly. they see it as a sector where they are losing power over their soverign domain.

im not saying anyone should rebel, or spouting antigovernment sentiments, for sure... but for real... like you said- which looks better...?

im sure some government employees just loved obliterating that art. you almost wish that the people could or would speak out more in order to show the powers that be that either we dont mind it, or that some of us actually like it.

the rest probably dont care. i cant imagine that any layman citizen would be so moved by the graffiti to paint over it so ugly-like.

[Why they had to be removed] Looks like these were done in an area where they wouldn't be too high profile anyway, which makes sense...In Seattle we have a similar area with whole murals painted on the backs of buildings in an industrialized section a bit outside Seattle proper. I only see them if I have to take the bus to the airport, but I thank god they're there, they make the trip more interesting.

Anyway, good thing you got 'em in shots, that's partially the role of the photographer, to document stuff just like this.
