The NYPD patrol Crown Heights, Brooklyn... Whilst taking this photo, I overheard the man standing outside the patrol car telling the cops about an ongoing break-in at a hardare store on Franklin Avenue. For those of you not familiar with NYPD patrol cars... you may notice that this cruiser is a rather old-ish Chevy Caprice... perhaps mid-1990s. You rarely see these old beater cop-cars in NYC, as they tend to replace them as fast as new models come out... and there have been at least three models out since these, or perhaps 6, if you could the Crown Victorias they use also. You never see these sorts of cars at all in Manhattan, you see them very rarely in hip (read: predominantly white, hip, low-crime) outer-boro spots like Park Slope... But as you head east, towards the areas that the gentrifiers like to call "ghetto", you encounter so many more old, should-have-been-retired-already cruisers, apathetic cops, and completely absent foot-patrol. Do you think this is a coincidence? I certainly don't. I overheard the cops tell the person reporting the crime something to the effect of a very apathetic "...we'll let em know at the station, pal..." before driving off. The NYPD certainly has a long way to go before they even come close to living up to the motto so boldy painted on the rear door of their cars... Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect!... (him) look, why dont we put our things in the dryer together. (she) hey now, we dont even know each other and you want your things tumbling around in there with my delicates. (him) i could put a bag over my things so you wont have to worry about your delicates later on. (she) how hot will it be for them? (him) hot enough to satisfy the drying time and when its over they can hang out to cool off. and so ends another tale in the daily life of the laundromat.
