NYC Style Graffiti Throw Up

- Metro1 - Thursday, October 4th, 2007 : goo

Simple bubble letters got the nickname "throw ups" due to the fact that they were done quick, and a writer would just throw it up in seconds.

Writers have their own stamp in a sense... the public would view it as sloppy, but to a writer, it was the key to being noticed quickly.

NYC throw up kings such as CAP MPC, 2, One, GHOST, KET, and CHINO BYI changes the game with their distinctive throw ups. Some are solid-filled while others prefer to just to it with a fat-cap.

Today, thousands of them cover the city, giving NYC the NYC feel...

Every 3-5 years or so, the memories of the last generation(s) fade away and the new "kings" are born, usually of their own self-proclamation.

Britney Spears: 17th Dec 2007 - 23:22 GMT

What the heck do these things say,
I think they should be a little more clear, so people understand what is written.

COS: 23rd Dec 2007 - 01:04 GMT

yea well certaint writers might write weird and like close together because they dont want people to always read what they wright

Ex Fame City: 29th Dec 2007 - 18:10 GMT

I grew up writing in the Bronx in the 70's and 80's. The real deal is that the writers were often slackers who didn't want to grow up. Some became great artists , designers and photographers.( Love 67, Haze, Revolt) But in the end, few became real artists. Many went down crack alley... ( Min the ass) It was and is a selfish art form, an f u , I'll do what I want attitude without really caring about how it affects anyone. That's why it's mostly greasy kid stuff. If you play it right you can get paid to do murals.... Peace...

MERSE: 9th Mar 2008 - 06:04 GMT

Its all about writing clear...sure, it takes serious talent to be able to make sick wildstyle pieces, but when you can't fucking read it, and it takes you 3 hours to do, what the fuck is the point...? then its not graffiti, its just spray paint art, i think...

anon (WPIS-74-220-232-34.worldpath.net): 17th Mar 2008 - 18:03 GMT

graffiti is graffiti. it is what it is. its just writing on the wall and peices, tags, roller letters, throwups, whatevs its all the same thing, just a name gettin up...or not...yes it may be seen as imature teenager shit just running around haha cant catch me! but all kinds of people do it for all diff reasons...and one more thing if ur not really up enough u might be seen but youll prob just be disregarded by the public and other writers...the public dont give a shit about the name so just do it just to do it
