The Spumoni Gardens

this is it, the best spumoni in the world. and i mean it. i have been coming to this place since i was born. we used to walk there on sunday afternoons for a spumoni and walk home licking the delicious spumoni before it dripped unto your hands. it always did. there was italian music playing and people eating pizza with side of italian sweet sausage. you see, italians never put sausage on the pizza, they ate it off a fork and then would have a bite of pizza. the sauce for their pizza was homemade and that was what made their pizza so good. real italians never used sauce from a can, they would cook it all sunday morning and then place it on their spagetti or macaroni, not on their pasta. no one said pasta in those days, well maybe a few times in an italian phrase. l and b spumoni gardens is on 86th street between mcdonald avenue and the west end line. cars are permitted to tripple park in the street, its a given. very safe and many police officers have their lunch there. across the street are projects which were once the brooklyn dumps and gangs of kids played there.

the view i love most, my grandsons and the garden. but my boys are my life. i can do without pizza and spumoni.

The guy from Armondo's: 2nd Oct 2006 - 09:50 GMT

It's been 25 years since I've had a slice at L&B. Is it still 35¢ for a slice and a Coke?

jack: 29th Feb 2008 - 15:50 GMT

haha, so where is armondo's, and no it cost an extra dollar on top of that amount, so we probably were going to l&b's at the same time in the 50's and 60's, remember when the city dumps were across the street.

ii used to live 2 blocks from there and i havent had there pizza or such in 45 yrs
