Brooklyn Broadcast & Audio

- Peter - Friday, April 22nd, 2005 : goo

Every time I've walked past Brooklyn Broadcast & Audio in the past year, the place has been closed... usually, the pulldown gate is rolled over the storefront, and it is dark within. Furthermore, the website avertised on their storefront, www.brooklynbroadcast.com, had been down until recently too. I know because I've checked it periodically over the past year, trying to find out more info about this strange rarely-open place, just for curiosity's sake of what's in my neighborhood.

Imagine my surprise when I passed this past weekend, and not only saw the storefront open, but also checked the site on my phone to discover that it was also up again.

Perhaps Brooklyn Broadcast & Audio was hibernating for the winter? Who knows...

That guy standing in front of it, smoking a cigarette and reading the paper, though, thought it was interesting that I was taking a photo, I guess, and copped a pose where he was facing me directly, and just stood silently like that til I walked off. Odd.

You take great pictures. You're Crazy! Here's one for ya. Please trust me. I live in El Paso, Texas. I lived in "East New York, Brooklyn", until I joined the Military 6 years ago. I'm about to become a Cop out here in TX. Not in N.Y., hell no!!! I've been back once, for a week after returning from Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. I'm getting out Honorably, and taking care of the wife and kids. I can't visit N.Y. for a while until things get straight.

Anyway, (Bluuh, blah, BLAAH, blah) Go to the street where I used to live, in East New York Brooklyn, at 515 Crescent St, Between Pitkin Ave & Belmont Ave, in the "hood". My Dad lives there. It's a nice White colored brick & stucco 2 story Townhouse by it's self, and the only one with a tree in the yard. There is another one like it but it's across the street, and it's has red shingles, striped like a peppermint. Take a good picture of my house, at a side angle, so that you can see some of the other houses on the same side of the street. Try to cut out that dilapidated building and store thats closed down, as much as you can. It's to the left of the crib. You may have to stand aross the street by those stores, or in the street to do this. The street might be under construction, I hope not. You can also get a good pic of the 4 story apartment building across the street from the house, at a side view so that you can see all the 6 tiny stores under the building "fighting for oxygen", and you can see the street corner.

Take a pic of the subway at the Euclid Train Station, the "A" Train, (fuck the "C" local), and those run down bulidings outside on Pitkin Ave.

From Sutter Ave & Euclid Ave, down to Sutter & Logan Ave, there are the "Cypress Projects". Red Project bulidings, 6 stories a piece. Hit those. Get a good one from in between the buildings where the walk paths and benches are. If you look down Sutter Ave from there, you should see at least 3 tall - 19 story complexes facing you, ya can't miss them. There are 2 more behind them, so there are 5 buildings. These are known as the "Plaza Projects". Snap those, from a little distance, to get the most detail and fit more of the buildings in the pic. You might get a better shot at the "Plaza PJ's" with an angle from the "South Conduit" & and Sutter Ave. (this is a road that takes you from Atlantica Ave, to Queens, and the "Belt Park Way") Or you can hit it from Linden Boulevard for another angle effect.

Get Pictures of the "75TH Police Preceint" on Sutter Ave & Essex St, big land mark.

The "Pink Houses" Projects are on across Linden Boulevard & Crescent St, on Crescent St & Cozine Ave, can't miss it. They're the only housing developments given the unmanly name of "pink", and the buildings are "red", yeah, that's smart!

Find a place called "City Line", a beat up shopping strip on Liberty Ave & Crescent St.(Its not that bad, I sometimes shopped there) Photographize that.

Go to Fulton St & Crescent St and drop the bomb on that. Catch one from the street as the "J" train literaly turns the corner, with the pizza shop, game store and other shit under it.

Smack The train station, "Broadway / East New York Junction" A whole lot of trains stop there. Neuk it From the inside and from the street.

Hit the "Remeeder Projects", Red buildings off of a street called Pennsylvania Ave(Granville Paine) & Sutter Ave. They start from Sutter Ave & Shefield Ave, down to Van Sinderen. The (letter) "L" train can be seen from this point, further up on Sutter Ave (6 city blocks), with its tracks running elevated on top of a small hill. You should see some very tall, hellishly red looking PJ's, with odd looking water towers on top, on the other side of the hill and the train tracks. Those are the "Mother Gattson Projects". Flash pics of that. That is the town called "Brownsville". That hill and train separates East N.Y. from Brownsville. In the past, many people have died here, and if you go and see how this place looks, you will know how. (shot, stabbed, beat to death)

There is another elevated train that goes over Pennsylvania Ave & Lyvonia. Put some holes in that. (take pics)

Go buss some shots of the PJ's THAT ARE OFF of Pennsylvania Ave, between Pennsylvania & and Linden Blvd, all the way down to Pennsylvania Ave & Flatlands Ave. Theres a Burger King, White Castle, Wendys, a Dinner and a shit load of other stores there. I forgot their names, But the Project building will be the tallest things that you will see, and they seem endless.

"Starrite City" is futher down Pennsylvania Ave. They are high rises, a cleaner version of the PJ's that are up the street. "Bordeline Projects". This is the biggest Co-op Development in East N.Y., and other places in Brooklyn/

The term, "Housing Projects", or "Projects", are not associated nice places with butterflies in the day, and lightening bugs and crickets chirping at night. People get their "Roof's" blown off (their heads) over senseless shit (Channel 7, Eye Wittness News). "NICER" places to live like these are called "Apartment Buildings, High Rises, Co-ops, or Housing Communities", and thery arent in bad area's where the people are bad. And they don't look like "projects"

While at these places, get pics of a few street signs (names of the streets) I called you crazy, look at what I would do. A lot of people live in East N.Y., Rappers, Musicians, Poets, Students, Doctors, Criminals, Pastors, you name it. This place is honestly the "Hardest" Town in Brooklyn. Its probably calmed down by now. But it gets wild in the Summer and at night, so no night pics. I wouldn't take a pic of my own house on Crescent St at night, and I lived there for 21 years. Nothing will happen to you. Im just giving you a little history. Just take the pics Early, like 8am-4pm. Taking pics at these places after those times, there will be too many people outside and you will have to "keep it moving" unless people don't see you looking like a tourist, or a "FED" taking pics. Nothin will happen. At night in the Summer, if it aint at a party with a bunch of happy people with you, then No. You'll just be drawing too much attention to yourself.

Mainly, I'd like to see a picture of my house in here. The Block I lived on. That would be hot. The pic you downloaded was taken in Brooklyn. Hook me up, Man! As far as that stuff I mentioned above, hook that up too! You'd be doin' East New York and Brooklyn A Crazy Big Favor, Son.

One Favor for a Soldier, Bro.

Moved into 2555 Linden Blvd. in Cypress Projects when they were new; until I got into a fight (1964) with one of the black neighbors...we were all so friendly for a few years and then the neighborhood was changing and we got outta there and moved to Brighton Beach co-op, Trump Village. I recall the Pink Houses. I attended PS 202 and walked there in the dread of winter with my little brother alone. We passed lots of empty fields with weeds and that was it.
Reading all your comments has made me long for the old days.
