Peterborough Graffiti Art Project
[previous] :: [next]Peterborough Graffiti Art Project A group of young people who want to show that not all graffiti is about defacing buildings, but can be an elaborate art form, are due to have their works display in council buildings throughout the city.
The group has met every week at Woodston Library since December to work on the Graffiti Art project, which is funded by the High Sheriff's award in recognition of great and valuable services to the community. Woodston Library, in Orchard Street, is launching the artwork to visitors as part of their open day due to be held on Tuesday, 1 June, from 9.30am to 3pm, where there will be a variety of activities for all, including refreshments, storytimes, a booksale and face painting. Visitors will also be able to take advantage of a new library service being launched the same day for hire of top titles of Playstation 2 Games.
Michelle Barr, Woodston Library Manager for Peterborough City Council said, "The young people have enjoyed their graffiti arts sessions and we are pleased that it has encouraged them to use and respect their local library. We are delighted by the high standard of work they have produced and hope that lots of people will take the time to admire it as they visit council buildings around the city." jamie: 11th Feb 2005 - 11:18 GMTThe High Sheriff's Awards are open to anyone who believes they are contributing to the scheme's crime reduction objectives and who would benefit from further financial, material or moral support. Where appropriate, financial awards of up to £1,000 can be made available from the High Sheriff's Fund for a wide variety of community projects, but special awards and certificates are also presented each year to individuals whose commitment and contribution to community work with young people deserves particular recognition. Apparently But, that's beside the point. Facepainting and storytimes! Rock on! Cynic: 10th Jun 2005 - 07:16 GMTI am looking for a good artist to spray up a wall for me.
