Originally opened in 1923, the South Street Bridge is one of several bridges that connects Center City with West Philly. Known for its spectacular view of the city and its pedestrian-friendly character, the South Street Bridge is a favorite among locals. In the past decade however the bridge has begun showing its age...large chunks of concrete have fallen off over the years, several of which have landed on the I-76 highway located underneath on the far west end (a safety hazard although thankfully no one has been injured). An untold number of pieces have also crumbled into the Schuylkill River...
