san gabriel arcangel mission built in 1771 by franciscan friars. formed with stone, brick and mortar it is one of the most preserved missions and the oldest south of monterey. the church is still used today and weddings are still performed here. my cousin was married here.
the side of the front of the church still has the original stairway to the choir loft.
the campanile or bell wall was built after the earthquake of 1812. there are six ancient bells from spain. if you go to california please visit these old missions. they have a...
