Previous Day :: Next Dayupfromflames:
Take a look at this boarded up oddity, on the short, quaint oddball strip of Goodwin Place. A boarded up house next to a new development, how odd! You'd think they'd try to buy them out or something.
But then, I have the advantage (or disadvantage) of being an optimistic... hash: now thats art
RobotW/Roots: i been interested in street art of all kinds for a while now and ive experimented with most. i just started pasting and ive found a good mixture for the paste, but im wondering what color medium works best and what type of paper? marquesha blunt: I think that chicago is more cleaner now then i thought it will be I was raise in chicago ils with my cousions and my auntie it was bad then but known they pick it back up Jack: I grew up in the adjoining neighborhood, Ridgewood, in the early 50s. Bushwick which I would go to play ball etc., was a beautiful neighborhood but tuff. There were fist fights but no shootings or stabbings that I recall. There were well maintained houses all kinds of shops, candy stores... kato: If yours are the Pink & Blue ones, I want them but would need four. terry banks: Spent a lot of time at the milk bar across the st. great picture brings back a lot of memories from the 50s JesseNewst: I wonder , were to find boyfriend to my sister? Joke:)
My online friends propose this link to use -TOP10 - As for me, I think life is now!!! Jimmy Legs: that first boarded-up building may not be a fire victim, a lot of these old buildings get stains on their facades (in this case probably from rust from the fire escape). i mean, it coudl be a fire, but the continued existence of all the commercial spaces on the ground... brittney tremblay: these are badass pics Jimmy Legs: you know the drill, get into the cab first, THEN tell them where you're going. no one can say how much it'll cost since we don't know where you'd be in manhattan or where you're going in bushwick. anyway, why take a cab when we have some great train lines?... Dave: Father owned a Italian Bucher Shop in the 50's-60's on the corner of Central and Bleeker, caddycorner from St. Barbara's Church ,burnt out in the 70's, never went back ! , What's there now ??, anyone with old photo's ? Luis: beautiful jack: the old building can tell many stories and every person has a memory of it. i'm partial to awnings, want to put some up on my home to give it the country look. jack: but then in the game years i enjoyed luner lander. old pinball machines were mostly in bars and as kids we could'nt go in there. jack: you guys are too young for me, in my day (and i can't believe i'm saying that) we didn't have arcade games, for that much we didn't have many tv's around so our arcade game was playing knuckles on a stoop, war games with carpet guns made from old lettuce... jack: ha ha hya ha ha ha, touche, dean: I'm viewing your photos from Vermont. We got lots of wind blown snow here this year, so I tried (once again) to build an igloo in the back yard. I failed again, for about the 10th time in my life. I did however get closer than during... bob: Hey Earl, I used to work for them too, in NYC but got tired of the bulls**t upfromflames: Great corner with a good future, with LOTS of majestic buildings planned for north of this intersection. For visuals: reference first picture! MichaelB: BD and upfromflames, You seem to really know the area. Im looking at a place at BUSHWICK AV andTROUTMAN. I currently live in Greenwich Village and im interested in the safty and condition of the east williamsburg area. I am usually out and about at all hours. Is the neighborhood... Fendie: BTW if anyways interested heres a website with pics of how teh green used to look, before the demolision.
www.angelfire.com/nv/207/chaindex.html Fendie: I know both areas where pretty hectic, but which was more? Fendie: I'm just curious to know what area was crime ridden. Cabrini Green or the Robert Taylor Homes? Is there anywhere i can get actaul statistics on the matter. i need it for a term paper i'm writing for uni. EvilGentleman: Maybe because Sainte-Catherine is the cross street in this photo. We are looking north on de la Montagne, I think.
No, I have never had the opportunity to hear the pipes in Ogilvy's yet. Every time my grandmother took me there, it was after the noon hour piper had left. also looking to move there: my main concern is, i want to be able to get drunk in the city and cab it home.
a) around 2 am, will nyc cabbies be willing to take the ride?
b) if so, how much would that cost?
c) as an alternative, how often does the L train run... groovehouse: Galaga! That was one of my favs. eaz503: you guys should check the office on the second max stop after you cross the bridge its right past the white arc thing...they sell graff stuff and they have another location i dont no how to direct u really but if u go to the one by the max then... EvilGentleman: That might explain it. Glad to hear they are still in business. I have never eaten Korean food, I will have to try it one day. Sylvain: sometimes they close around 3.00 and they reiopen for dinner around 5.00.
Great food and service. EvilGentleman: Naaaah, that's with the wind chill. The real temperature was -24. Wind chill is for wimps. We can tell for ourselves how cold it feels, all we need to know is how cold it is. Sirhcbre: How have I never ever noticed this building? Seriously, it looks completly new to me but the Ogilvy's building looks very familiar.
Speaking of Ogilvy's, have you ever been in there while the bagpiper walks through the store? Sirhcbre: You would enjoy the arcade on Decarie in old Ville Saint-Laurent. It has some classic games and is a pretty popular hangout for local kids. EvilGentleman: You always seem to have a pun close at hand. Quite a handy ability, jack. I have to hand it to you, you are the Olympic pun champion, hands down. Sirhcbre: Coffee places should offer a discount to people who bring their own cups. I see empty coffee cups all over the place all the time! EvilGentleman: Why do I have this feeling the sneeze resulted in a few of your classmates becoming rather ill? I like the way you describe yourself as having a home, therefore homely. Nice improvisational usage of the English language. Andrew Panikos: Ya, he stopped for the light, it had nothing to do with the 5 feet of water that awaited him on the next street. Seriously, look at the car on the right, it's floating...
ps: they showed the picture in the 6 o'clock news, so it was totally worth it getting... Sirhcbre: I read today in the Gazette that it was -40 yesterday. Needless to say, I took the Metro today. jack: hey, did i ever tell you guys about the red garter in brooklyn on pacific street? jack: that could have been some little calf's mother, wee little calf, looking for mommy, mommy where are you, mommy where are you, "i'm up here baby" jack: you know there might be some good food in there and a homeless person or a homely person like me could get some good nutrition and for free, can't beat that!!!! hey, whats in your stomach evil and whats for lunch tomorrow. someday i have to tell you about my... jack: give this man a hand,,,bravo. jack: i got the point
jack: ha ha ha ha,,,,nice shoes on nice feet on nice girls. Hunter : I am not under the impression that any of these murals were intentionally dictated to Leo Tanguma by some elite agency. Instead, I think he may have been picking up on some type of a "current" inspired by the location and perhaps the intentions that were focused on the building... wise one tna wc from montreal: yo the olny problem with etching cream its that if you toch it you burn yourself hardly and you need to find a metal mop or metal marker
PS tyler are you sure it works milk and vinegar Caverta: I have already enjoy your website, and it is so nice and cool. I will visit your website again. Thank you. Catherine Penfold-Waxman:
Jack, I'm sorry, but we didn't take a picture of ourselves together. You just have to be happy with our shoes. Mine are the in the Lady Lucks. Also, sorry disappoint, but I have straight hair. We should have a citynoise convention and then join the Royal Navy EvilGentleman: Or perhaps it is the vile habit of coffee-drinking that is to blame. As you can see in these (unfortunately fuzzy due to my imperfect camera) pictures, there are at least two coffee cups each from Tim Horton's and McDonald's, as well as several others, in the pile that has...
