Previous Day :: Next DayJamie: so, south korea, is that the good or the evil korea? Jamie:
i've got a rotary telephone, and it works. it's plugged into a line which i know for a fact terminates at a digital, adsl enabled telephone exchange.. it just works. and it rang today for the first time ever. it goes "ring ring!" just like a telephone should
it bears the... Chris Erb: I always love these sets. Chris Erb: Haha, that would be a lot of fun! snymrik: I just don't have anything to say right now.
chiamattt: great photos, thanks.
Selig: missing seoul. cyborg arm is fantastic! reminds me of some mad priest in the comic 'transmetropolitian'. gold! Catherine Penfold-Waxman: That first one is super.
Has it been raining blood on your car? Catherine Penfold-Waxman: I'm in. EvilGentleman: Ah well, c'est la vie, oui?
One of these days, we should put together a citynoise road trip, where some of us will go on tour and see what happens. I think it would be interesting to contrast pictures of, say, downtown Buffalo, as taken by jeeff, Peter, jack, hool, Catherine... Tyfoid Kid: In the 5th picture down you can see the other pedestrian bridge (the Washington Ave Bridge) that connects the East and West Banks of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. This bridge is denoted as a bikeway on this campus map onestop.umn.edu/Maps/mpls.jpg but it's used for the same... ian: Amazing that I actually know who "King of Carrot Flowers, pt II" is by. Chris Erb: Also, I drove by the other day, the graffitti has been very carefully painted over. Chris Erb: This building is actually quite nice to Fredericton standards. Even though Fredericton is one of the richest places in Atlantic Canada, it's still quite poor compared to much of the rest of Canada. These condos will likely be in high demand once they go up for sale. ... jamie: i like the sculpture too. great photos jeeff jamie: tel me you didin't sit in the chair? that's a pretty dangerous chair to be sitting in Chris Erb: Where does the bridge take you to and from. it looks like a nice walk, we have something similar here where they turned an old train bridge into a walking bridge. There's a plaque on the bridge saying it's the longest pedestrian bridge in the world. How... Chris Erb: I would have loved to be at Mutek. I'll be living in Montreal next year so hopefully I'll be able to catch the next one. Peter: i love the brackish part of downtown nyc where chinatown and little italy literally run together... lots of italian flags and restaurants, but a huge majority of signage in chinese. jeeff: by the way, www.mutek.ca George T.: Too bad one has to squirm and agonize before saying 'Chinatown' or 'Japtown' or whatever. A Chinese knows that he is Chinese, for heaven's sake. 'ID' my foot - or should I say fish head. I still get chastised by my son for interchanging Asian and Oriental.
The saddest 'Chinatown'... elaine: yes i did. and yes it was. also rapid hardware was a fave haunt. i am told that that whole street is rapid hardware now, but even back in the day it was so big you could find whole new rooms and floors and lose your friends, and forget why... I.T.U.C.: Elaine, 1981 to 1989 were my Liverpool years. Did you shop down Berry and Duke Street, near the bombed out church for your jellies? The international deli you mentioned. Do you mean Mr "M"'s in Bold Street not far from the corner of Slater Street? Mr "M"'s is a must... jeeff: joey - indeed, it was a really nice sunset.
eg - thanks for the offer. while in town for mutek i had time for nothing but mutek. they really keep you hopping. in fact the hike over mont royal was on the way to a venue,... jeeff: i took several pics that included just the cross and the crown of trees, but i like the full version better. for me the tones and composition of the bottom part add depth, atmosphere, and scale to the photo. anyway i'm glad you liked them, and to each his/her... jeeff: in toronto most of the various ethnic neighbourhoods just get the "little" tag - little portugal, little korea, little india, etc. and yet we still have 2 'chinatown' neighbourhoods in the east and west. elaine: ITUC, i was in liverpool from about 1979 to 1985, i went to art school there, which as you know is not far from chinatown. this was before all day drinking and there was a vibrant cafe culture. bold st got an international deli around 1982, which was fabulous, but... jack: aah, how i love the smell of toxins in the morning. jack: WHAT! YOU MEAN I CANT TYPE IN CAPS, WHY YOU PLWDSKMNOSIEJJFONVLSKDNVOWIEHFOWLKNVLSDXK, oh, ok i see your point. jack: no comment. jack: gabi is correct, nice pic's jeef. jack: they should call it 'asianation'. the fish heads are great for soups. thirty years ago a client of mine invited me to his daughters wedding. it was held at #1 canal street in chinatown, in manhattan. it was a 7 course dinner and i ate some... I.T.U.C.: Sorry to use the heavy phrase "benighted". But I meant a community under sufferance from the local population's fear of outsiders. My apologies too all. Jamie: I hope you do. and if you do, i demand that you share the photos with us here. I'd like to repost the urbex stuff here, but i won't do it without permission. I've pleaded with mr simon cornwell to share his urban explorations with us here on citynoise, cause... EvilGentleman: Yikes, I typed jeeff's name so fast, I lost an 'e'. Sorry about that. EvilGentleman: No worries, we got the Mini-Me Bush, or Bush Jr. for Prime Minister now. Bush thinks he already owns us. Why would he invade Canada? That would be like a US invasion of Puerto Rico. Kinda pointless.
And we all know the real reason Bush wants to close the Mexican border... I.T.U.C.: It is believed that the Chinese community in Liverpool Uk, is possibly the oldest in the world. The first Chinese people are supposed to have been Merchants and Sailors, who worked the trade routes to the US. The area the community settled in, has always gone by the name of... renan: ae eu tabem faso le parkuor e muito irado tem 12 anos renans@ hotmail.com me ad flw
Tyfoid Kid: Funny the fascist president Bush wants to close the border with Mexico because of the supposed security threat from terrorists. Where have most of the terrorists in North America been caught in the last 6 years? Just another racist policy cloaked in the bullshit of fighting THE war on... Gabi: Lovely pictures. When I viewed your article, the first picture showed only about 2/3rd of the top part. I had to scroll down to see the whole photo. I have to tell you that I really liked the “cropped” version, only the top of the cross with the crowns of... aer suzuki: banglatown definately has a ring to it, sounds exotic. nice to meet you elaine, thanks for speaking up. elaine: nice post. in london our chinatown is still chinatown, but then i think it really is actually chinese. it is very central, and i think the chinese residents have enough of a time trying to live there, let alone anyone else. i live near brick lane in east london which... aer suzuki: beautiful shots. I.T.U.C.: Cracking Web site. I'm making plans already. I live a pleasant Cycle ride from Cane Hill. So might try and get over there next weekend, if my old velocipede is back from the repair shop in time. I lived not far from Rainhill Mental Hospital (near Liverpool), as a child... elaine: i like that idea.
it's nicer than dogs with eyes the size of saucers, cartwheels, windmills etc. elaine: more classy signage, j! Jamie: Gus, on the internet typing in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS is generally considered to be SHOUTING and is, on the whole, unwelcome. Thanks for the pics and info though. Did you take these yourself? joey: a gaseous beer hall EvilGentleman: You twit. You should have e-mailed me. I could have shown you around some. Still, nice pics, jeff. Too bad we were not able to meet up. joey: now that the 3 tons of ammonia nitrate are locked away. joey: i'm more interested in the sky above the buildings. nice clouds of reflected city light with outerspace blues behind. i love it when that happens here in oakland. except here it's usually the city lights reflecting off the clouds of fog. m8rd: The dude did piece on subways. After subway pieces, I guess to him, pieces wasn't worth it. And there is a legitimate art to throwy's. They take creativity. And if you see the spots he hits. Damn. Fuck the fact that his dad is someone big. Wow.... Biff: You wish... A Carolina Morning... Previous Day :: Next Day |
