Matt: There are canals in Venice (CALI) , but it is a residential area a little walking ways from the "boardwalk" (the area you see in the pictures).

in response to Venice Beach

Cay: Avoiding what you don't want to recognize is unhealthy. Even if he is "just some 12 year old" his experiences and opinions shouldn't be dismissed. And, too, the highest number of crimes in NYC are being committed by a younger age group. So if he is shooting his mouth off...

in response to My House in Bushwick

John Spencer: Gus,enjoyed the site and pictures very much. My mother grew up in Barlick and immigrated to America with her parents in 1924. I last visted there in 1969 and stayed with a friend of mothers' in the "Monk House". Will be visiting again from Florida, USA, in six weeks to...

in response to Barnoldswick

upfromflames: And finally, thanks for all your hard work, planners, leaders, student artists. It was great to see this come together, in your minds, on the wall, and in our community.

in response to Bushwick: History in the Making

colavitos ghost: classic post indeed; and a truly classic cleveland 'hood. it is fleet avenue, however. not fleet street. but only a real jerk like me would point that out.

in response to Santa Comes Early in Slavic Village

upfromflames: The last strokes on the Bushwick High Mural went up today. I felt lucky to see them go on the wall. Afterwards, Unue, Al, Joe, Rolando, and Crystal--the lead artists--posed in front of their creation. I captured a few others close ups, but really, the scale is such that you have...

CartLegger: first off, I do agree that tony's is the best pizza, and he is a nice guy, too. But if you mean how does some kid shooting his mouth off reflect the community, I think it really does not matter much. Does he really represent the community, or is he just some...

in response to My House in Bushwick

Cay: So uh Peter and UpfromFlames.....what say you to Chris R's post???? Is he telling it like he experiences it or is he being an alarmist.

in response to My House in Bushwick

81 Supporter Denver: As far as "Other peoples property" HA now has a stronge guidelines than back in the day. Sure there's prob ladies that like to be "passed around" but the rule is "if it's not yours, don't touch it"..going back to what was said up top, they have huge family values,...

CE: Pretty much, it's one block down. This picture was taken from the courtyard in front of it.

in response to Say Goodbye

little ukraine: i was just reading about Yonge Street in a book about The Band, apparently they used to gig along that strip when they were still The Hawks. Though I guess that's sort of like saying some New York bands used to gig along Broadway or something. nice picture,...

in response to Yonge and Dundas

ryan and neil : all very nice !! but there should be a fishery in irlam , somwhere where it wont get wrecked and out of the way .

in response to Irlam, Manchester

serlingrod: this block looks familiar...is this across the street from Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal?

in response to Say Goodbye

CartLegger: LOL! From a mispelling, a classic is born!

in response to Tappan Zee Bride.

little ukraine: i'll never understand how things like this happen. sorry to hear about this.

in response to Say Goodbye

Cinic: That block is pretty cool indeed. I am actually surprise it hasnt been removed before, it is after all in a prime location. I think it wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt a Bestbuy. Bestbuy is so generic plus a FutureShop 3 blocks down, I dont get it.

in response to Say Goodbye

Shon B.: I sadly agree. A lot of people who have moved into the old ethnic neighborhoods are being displaced. Many are moving to older suburban areas. Purposefully or not, a lot of big cities are gentrifying; displacing traditionally ethnic neighborhoods and replacing them with a whole different voter base.

in response to Humboldt Park & Gentrification

Shon B.: Nice views. Haven't spent real quality time in BK; maybe I'll start exploring it the next time I visit NYC. You should check out the neighborhoods and architecture here in Chicago.

in response to Prospect Heights:

EvilGentleman: Um, I think the vows went something like "I-87, do solemnly swear, to cross the Hudson, and to connect New York, Albany and Montreal, for rich cars and for poor cars, in potholes and in traffic, forever and ever, amen." The clergyman replies, "With Tappan Zee, I thee wed. You...

in response to Tappan Zee Bride.

CE: Oh, I forgot that you did those two posts on the pizza joint and Spectrum (although I did remember that you had written something about it).

in response to Say Goodbye

CE: That's too bad that you weren't able to go to Concordia. it's a good school and Montreal is a wonderful city. Yeah, this really is too bad. the new building is supposed to be pretty soulless too and what the Best Buy that is planned will do for the...

in response to Say Goodbye

EvilGentleman: One of the best performances I ever saw in Montreal was Jeff Healey at the Spectrum in the spring of 1991. Such a shame to lose this block. No more Spectrum, no more Pizza Lilass. Big business kills another piece of Montreal's unique soul.

in response to Say Goodbye

CartLegger: Who'd she marry?

in response to Tappan Zee Bride.

in response to Window Box

little ukraine: cinic - yes, of course it's worth seeing! procyon - just got back from a week-long trip to your city on the lake. can't tell you how many times during the trip i said 'i recognize this from the procyon post!' come to think of it, i said that...

Xavi: There are many stories of Puerto Rican families who are making a killing off of their homes by selling and moving to Florida, or back to Puerto Rico or wherever and they do so for many reasons. One reason is that parents have raised their children, all of whom now...
