Tsunami Tiltmeter Hit

I found this in the photo pile today. Almost 2 years to the day. This was from one of the tiltmeters that is stationed around the volcanoes on the Big Island of Hawaii. It's measuring the waves of the quake as they radiate out from Sumatra. It says it's a 6 hour time line.

Wild Chickens

So Kauai has thousands of wild chickens. They're everywhere. In the grocery store parking lot, walking around town, on the beach, in the rain forest. Among the many ethnic groups that moved to Hawaii were the Filipinos who brought along their fighting chickens. Well back in the 80's there were a couple of hurricanes that swept across the island and the chickens got loose. Since Kauai is the only island that doesn't have any natural predators that can kill the chickens (outside of cats and dogs) they have flourished. The mongooses keep them in check on the...
