With respect to EvilGentleman and his list of bad things about public transit (many of which I do agree with), I feel the need to stick up for this mode of transportation.
1. Relatively environmentally friendly.
2. Cheaper than driving, by a million bucks or thereabouts.
3. Easier and less stressful than driving because you can read or knit or think and don't need to watch for cars, pedestrians, cyclists. Just don't get so lost in thought that you miss your stop...
