I confess to having a bit of a "thing" for the Gherkin, the building on the left of the picture. My friends don't understand me, but I have a feeling that some people here would. The building on the right is the NatWest tower. I think the official name is Tower 42 since NatWest sold it. The official name of the Gherkin is the "Swiss Re tower" after the Swiss bank that owns it.
The picture was taken on Thursday last week from the landing of the top floor of my office.

The ship channel undoubtedly transformed this city into the petrochemical juggernaught it is today. There was once another tunnel under it, but it's been replaced with a magnificent cable-stayed suspension bridge.
