Dick's on (Capitol Hill, Seattle, Washington)...

Dick's Drive-In is a small local chain that's a institution, which I discovered on my recent trip to the area. I passed most of its five locations, and found them constantly packed, seeing people queued up for burgers at 10:30am and idly standing in line for fries at 2 am...

And according to Sir Mix-A-Lot, its "the place where the cool hang out".

There's nothing better than eating at a city's iconic food establishment....Wiener's Circle in Chicago, Pat's Steaks in Philly (cuz Geno's SUCKS!), Primanti's in Pittsburgh....Dick's seems to fall into that category that really adds to the cultural culinary identity.

wine and internet is a no-no.

this seems like a good post to start up a fun citylist; why don't we all recommend a cult eating spot from our respective hometowns???

in cleveland, we have our own sort of pat's vs. geno's thing, but with hot dogs, not cheese steaks. if you're ever in cleveland, be sure to have a chilidog "with the works" from both STEVE'S HOT DOG LUNCH and OLD FASHIONED HOT DOGS (popularly known as "the hot dog inn"). they're both located on Lorain Rd. on the Near West Side.

i'm partial to OLD FASHIONED, but go to cleveland to decide for yourself.

mmm! dicks! i live in seattle and right up the street from the only dicks location with indoor seating. although i havent stood in line for $1.00 shakes or burgers since high school, (vegetarian going on 5yrs) its a hot spot for locals and visitors.

the neon sign reminds me of another pic i took in l.a. last year.image 25316

ampdub - You live on Queen Anne, then? My old stomping grounds. I'm vegetarian about fifteen years now and I still stand in line for the fries (which I am assured are veg-oil fried). The Holman Road and Lake City locations are virtually time warps, but I spent the most time loitering in the 45th Ave and Capitol Hill parking lots in college. Good times. My Queen Anne Dick's days came when I was an upstanding adult. Fortunately, that didn't last long. Cheers!

It is what it is, but in comparrison to other "Favorite local eats" it doesn't compare to the goodness of others.

I saw this little guy as I was walking by. He looks like some kind of or so deep in thought he hasn't noticed the snow buidling up on him. It's just a covered in a burlap...
