Some shots from last weekend’s Gowanus Canal Tour with BCUE, led by the very able Daniel Wiley. I suppose that this also serves very well as an addendum to the Bridges of New York City

A bridge too far. The Carroll Street Bridge, circa 1880, is the the oldest on the canal. It also was the one that was malfunctioning that day. So I can't show you the flushing tunnel at the upper end of the canal, at Butler St. Notice the adventurous Gowanus Dredgers that are similarly turned back. you can take a ride yourself if you like. Just look 'em up at www.gowanuscanal.org/.

awesome entry, dude! i love the carroll street bridge... those squat drawbridges are nice, too (3rd street, hamilton, etc)...

The water looks much nicer when you travel farther down Columbia - it's all parking and warehouses and such but you can see all of central bk. They even have benches to sit on and bike lanes to ride.
