Though it seems so postcard-ish, this sunset is enlivened by the fact that its take from above one of the nation's dirtiest waterways, Newtown Creek, the site of the nation's largest oil spill. The 1954 Exxon spill has left 9 million (of an original 17 million) gallons, undulating beneath the neighborhood of Greenpoint.

nice pic. i remember that spill. pollution all over new york waterways, poor politicians.

CartLegger: 13th Sep 2007 - 12:38 GMT

It seems we were all a little off. This morning's news reveals that the spill was actually 30 million gallons almost twice the original estimate.

Three cheers for Exxon! That's 10 million gallons per hurrah!
