It's a pedestrian street. Cars can travel across it at intersections but they're mostly narrow one-way streets so not much traffic travels across the street. Cafe and restaurant terraces spill out onto the street and buskers perform amongst the tables or by the fountains. It's a great street and there are a couple other variations of the theme around Montreal such as De La Gauchetière in Chinatown and Duluth a few blocks north of Prince Arthur.
