On the eastern tip of the South Fork of Long Island, some 120 miles from Manhattan, lies the historic hamlet of Montauk.

High atop a hill just north of the village you will find Montauk Manor, purported by many to be haunted.

Wow! Nice Spread. I've been meaning to head to Montauk, but just cause its the end of Long Island. I did not actually consider being inside a building. But this is a nice one. Did you stay here?

little ukraine: 26th Jul 2007 - 20:45 GMT

i did - it's crazy expensive, thankfully my fiancee's parents were paying the bill.
montauk is quite an interesting place, definitely worth a trip. you might be interested to see Robert Moses' Hither Hills State Park, though there is also a ton of stuff dating to several centuries back. deep hollow ranch, for instance, is the oldest continuously operating cattle ranch in the u.s. - founded 1658! to be honest i wish i knew more of the town's history than i do.

colavitos ghost: ooo how LLLLLOVERLY!

Yeah, man. I love my in-laws.

I could post lots of the places they've gotten me into, from hotels to restaurants to b'way shows. Wise of you to marry in such a direction. And fun! I hope your partnership is a great one!

My wife and I are headed out to Fire Island in august, but since the in-laws are not footing the bill this time, it will be in a tent, not a manor.

PS: Its amazing the history of Ling Island. It developed at around the same time as NYC, only British--not Dutch. And East to West. I guess it just three hundred years for things to meet in the middle, at a cheesy strip mall outside Hicksville--or wherever.
