Little Bungalows fall to make way for McMansions. Quick, someone call an urban sociologist!

Jack, thanks for taking the time to capture this part of the urban process. I'll make sure to use these fotos with my students.

CartLegger, how great that you are a teacher! What and where do you teach if we may know??

CartLegger: 23rd Jul 2007 - 21:38 GMT

Lucky guy, that I am, I am starting a position in the urban planning department at the Academy of Urban Planning in Bushwick. This fall, its intro to urban sociology, and in the spring, its GIS--a map making project. Its sort of a dream job, for a fellow with a love affair with the city.

that must be the same AUP involved with the Up From Flames exhibit at the Brooklyn Historical Society - that place looks amazing, best of luck and congratulations!

There's a dedicated academy of Urban Planning in New York? I have been toying with the idea of trying to get a high enough GPA to be able to go to Columbia someday to do my masters (mostly as an excuse to live in New York for awhile, I don't actually know how their Planning programme is). I have a long ways until grad school, two majors is going to eat up a lot of my life. I will look into the academy you work at though. How big is it? Does it have any specific focus?

Peter: 23rd Jul 2007 - 22:42 GMT

careful... columbia is what sucked me into , and i never left! ;)

jack: 23rd Jul 2007 - 22:48 GMT

my grandfather taught languages at columbia in the 20's

ah, you ARE upfromflames... I had a feeling! great exhibit.

jack: 25th Jul 2007 - 13:19 GMT

cartlegger, the pictures of those young men and women are beautiful and they give me a feeling of hope for this country. i guess every generation has it's own ideas of what they want to get out of life but these students are going to give life and preserve a way of american life. the world is theirs and and they will succeed.

CE: 25th Jul 2007 - 14:31 GMT

So is the AUP a high school with an urban planning focus or is it a college? I just don't understand the New Century High School Initiative that they talk about in the video.

CartLegger: Keep your eyes on the prize, fellas!
