Church Fire in St-Henri
Browsing articles by CE - [previous] :: [next]I took these pictures about a month ago. I had heard while eating dinner one day that the church in St-Henri was burning down. I didn't get to take the pictures until a week or two after it burnt. Anyone who has ever lives on the west side of the borough probably has a story of some-sort about this church and I am no exception; when I first moved to Montreal, I met a few people who later became good firends. I was going to stay at their place that night (an apartment that they wonderfully allowed me to live in for awhile when I lost my prior apartment due to a crazy landlord) and was told to look for the creepy church with the satanic Jesus to get to their house. I unfortunately forgot to take a picture of the Jesus statue with a pentagram spraypainted on it. Last winter, my friend and I heard rumours that the church, abandoned for many years, would play host to an ad-hoc art exhibition. We were told to go to the Place-Saint-Henri Métro station and wait for people dressed as ghosts to take us there. Luckily, we went to see a French Kung Fu Situationist détournement film which caused us to be late and therefore miss the mass arrests made by the police due to trespassing. I walked by this church every day while living at my friends' house and thought it was a horrible eyesore. Now, after its destruction, I somehow find it quite beautiful.

And then I see a link to this article. Funny thing is, I somehow missed this article. Good one, CE. I guess this will become one of our cross-linked sets of articles, once I post the pics. And yes, I got a couple of shots of the Satanic Jesus.
EvilGentleman: 14th Sep 2007 - 04:09 GMTNo clue. I've been looking for the name, but no luck as of yet. uterak: 5th Apr 2008 - 12:03 GMToh, what an ugly church.. so rotten as the idea of christianity itself.. emeleef: 5th Apr 2008 - 18:44 GMTGreat place for an art exhibition though. Shame the police had to go and arrest people. What else was the building doing? Just rotting away? Comment on this articleBrowsing articles by CE - [previous] :: [next] |
