The FDNY may have a point. This is wasteful, dangerous, and not so safe.

i read in the newspaper last year that each hour a hydrant is left open like this, it costs the city 8,000 dollars!!!

it's a cool way to cool off, but you're right, Cart, it's not really a logistically solid option.

There is an attachment that FDNY offers to kids, that you might have seen around NYC. It puts a meager arc of spray that does a small part of the job at a much smaller cost. I don't see these folks calling 311 for it.

Those were the good ole days.. I also remember the police department coming by and telling us to turn off the water and if they saw it on again, they turned it off.. Then they put something up there that made it hard to turn the pump on... I know it cost the city money but hey what were we kids supposed to do when the nearest pool was too far to go to and we were hot. We could have been getting ourselves into trouble doing really illegal stuff.
