The Iron Triangle

The Land that Infrastructure Forgot
In the shadow of Shea Stadium, on the shores of Flushing Bay, this stubborn fossil of old NYC squats.

To be in the Willetts Point area feels like taking a step back into the 19th century of America. No, they did not have cars, but nor did they have paving, or much in the way of central govt. services.

image 19387
That’s the way it is here. The Iron Triangle is slowly being starved for infrastructure by a city that wants to eradicate the body shops and remediate it for development. You can read more on that on wirednewyork:www.wirednewyork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4621

As you can see, its pretty gruesome. Maybe that’s not a bad idea. But, where will all the auto shops go? The city is in a state of denial, so the Iron Triangle rusts away and away.

I think its an easy an imminently applicable tool for citynoisers. Try it out, ya'll!
Its just the next tab over on the googlemaps homepage.

I wonder if there's some way of integrating this nicely with the site. Interesting.

CartLegger: 13th Apr 2007 - 01:29 GMT

I think its just up to citynoise posters linking to it for now...

ask yourself, do you have a Google My Map yet???

BZZZP: 24th Apr 2007 - 17:30 GMT

i was chased on down this "street" on my bike by 2 rottweilers.
the workers came out of the shops and hooted. i have no illusions as to whom they were rooting for.
good times. i finally lost the dogs just as the road ended and turned under the subway tracks...
