Well, there are sure are a lot of photos to post from my walk down Street on April 1st. This one is from the part of the walk through the district. I happened to pass this gay singles bar with a unique name that I am sure is quite appropriate for the patrons, although it sent shivers down my spine. I always try my best to be open minded, but as a straight man, some things just cause me to recoil instinctively. Still, I must admit, it's a pretty cool name for a gay bar.

The apparent age of the lettering here causes me to wonder how long has been around. Yet another place that adds to the unique character of Montreal.

that's not a suprising name for a gay bar, i mean, most gay guys seem to really focus on their looks.

The goo for this article is the website of the bar itself.

The picture in the logo on the index page kind of reminds me of the in the movies.

Le Stud seems to have entrances on both Sainte-Catherine and , with the bar wrapping around the businesses on the corner. East side of the intersection in the satellite shot below:

Le Stud is making headlines in the news lately. Seems they don't serve women.

And why would the name "Le Stud" cause you to "recoil"? Seems to me that the establishment is being VERY clear as to who and what it caters to and straight boys who claim they 'try' to be open-minded (hey, either you are or you aren't) aren't it. Too bad. I guess that only leaves, what?, a few thousand other places to go to for ya?

And, gosh, I can't tell you just how thrilled I am that you deigned to admit the name is "pretty cool for a gay bar." Oh thank you, sir, thank you!!

EvilGentleman: 1st Jun 2007 - 22:28 GMT

Hey, no prob, dude. As you rightfully state, there are many other places to go, and I realize it must be difficult for you gay guys to find decent places to hang out. Do not think I am in any way disparaging the gay community, because that is not at all my intent. You must keep in mind that my comments were intended for my fellow "breeders", as you guys once called us heteros. Or do you still call us that?

But I should point out that there is little call to get hostile, I am a lot nicer than many straight guys out there would be. No gay-bashing from me, no sir. I am sure I have some prejudices arising from my "normal" upbringing, hence my "recoiling". What did you expect us straight guys to do, clap and cheer?

Any discomfort I feel is my own damn fault, since I knew what part of town I was walking through, and chose to go there. Maybe I'm just jealous of you guys, cuz the Oscar Wilde Pub nearby has to be the most awesome-looking bar in the whole damn province! I wish they had a straight version built the exact same way, it looks great!

And as far as your sarcasm goes, "You're welcome." What do you care what I think anyways? I'm not gay, so my opinion of a gay bar is a pointless matter to begin with. Besides, it sure seems to me like the gay community uses a lot of tongue-in-cheek humour when naming businesses, (Le Club Sandwich comes to mind), and I can both recognize and appreciate those sentiments.

But anyways, think whatever you want, man. When I hang out with gay friends, I sometimes get creeped out when they get a little closer with each other than what I am used to. When that happens, they just laugh at me. Oh well. Friends understand each other.

In short, take your issues out on someone else. Go pick on redneck farmboys or something.

I don't get even the slightest hint of negativity or homophobia from you. There are, unfortunatly, those in the gay cmmunity who are reluctant to embrace any other lifestyle or thought pattern that isn't their own. I understand how some may feel that way because of the discrimination and gay bashing they've experienced personally or that their friends have been through, and by not allowing straight people their right to comment and express their perspectives on gay life they, in effect, are protecting themselves against homophobia real or imagined. However, just because you're Christian it doesn't give you the right to look down on or judge anyone who's Catholic or Jewish, does that analogy make sense? This perspective is most certainly NOT shared by the majority of fruits out there, but make no mistake about it, they're not hard to find. We all gotta relax and celebrate our differences, I love lots of different fruit...imagine how boring it would be if I only liked cherries! HELLO!
