does your phone have a digital zoom? i'm noticing how some of your pics are a little pixelated compared to others

Peter: 21st Jan 2005 - 14:30 GMT

yeah... im experimenting with some unofficial camera hacks. the cam ships in low-rez/low-filesize/non-zooming mode, with no ability to change those settings. the actual cam hardware, though, is capable of much more than how they engineered it into the phone, albeit still a low-quality phonecam... there are addons you can download that allow you to zoom, kill dead/blued-out pixels, increase rez, filesize and quality, etc. all are sort of amateurish, but work nonetheless if you dont mind fiddling with them and their occasional bugs.

so anyway, i hope to find the ideal settings to optimize lowish light photography (i,e: any photo that isnt in full noontime sun, heh!) and am just experimenting with it until then.

trying to get some updated firmware for my phone. the release version has quite poor camera quality especially in low light conditions. i'm told the latest revision is much better in comparison. we'll see.

have created some php/gd code which allows for brightness/contrast and color balance to be performed on uploaded images :-) which may be handy for phonecam peeps

Peter: oh, word! awesome!

Re: World Trade Center Stop: Manhattan

found out today that my sidekick 2 cam which is proper rubbish has a zoom, but they don.t list it in the manual, had to go on a forum.

i am thinking about taking more pics with it they will be distorted just from the crappy built in camera.

Peter: 4th Mar 2005 - 15:34 GMT

steelisreal: same thing with my treo 600. i dug around on a forum amd found a hacked replacement for the cam software that includes a zoom as well as the ability to remove dark pixels in low-light shots. after doing a little tweaking myself, im finally able to get the best possible pics out of my phone... though theyre still not great, as you can see above.

i think im going to upgrade to the treo 650 soon, which has a phenomenal cam built in! my wife has one and im jealous, heh.

sine: don't be jealous! i am just the bleeding edge...
