Most of these were taken last spring. I thought it would be nice to see some images of warmth on an ice cold day like today.

The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower, at 700 feet, was the tallest building in the world from 1909-1913. It is not, however, out of reach of this tree.

Left to right: The New York Life Building, the Merchandise Mart Building (not better than Chicago's!), no idea on the little guy, the Metropolitan Life North Building, and the Tower once again.

Then again, I'm sure we're not far off from this...

I love the geometry in the fourth one--where was it taken?

little ukraine: 6th Feb 2007 - 13:09 GMT

thanks! great choice of words - it was taken in nyu's math library.

uke, may i call you uke, or perhaps little ukraine you prefer, are you a student at nyu? my daughter received her masters from nyu. you are a sensitive photojournalist with a very good eye for balance. most of the people who post here are excellent photojournalists and you (if i may state) rank with them. i am proud to be associated with all of you picture takers because all my life i have been mesmerized by photographs, i have been so interested in the photos, that no matter where i am at i love looking at pictures, especially old ones.

uke suits me fine - thanks very much for the kind words, jack! i graduated from nyu in may; i recall discussing the NYU library with your daguther on here a few months back. a lot of the pictures i've posted on this site tend to focus too much on the subjects of the photo - i'm more interested in simply showing the subjects than in creating an interesting perspective. for lack of a better term, i've always seen them to be very objective, almost like looking at a map. in any case i feel like this set is atypical in that sense, so i'm glad you noticed! my fiancee is actually a far better photographer than i am, and i've learned a lot from her.

esmer: wow those r really nice pics great job
