my friend tommy and i would watch people playing chess in the park. the park people are good. if you want to give them money just sit and play a game, they'll get your money. tommy and i played chess every day. we would go to sheepshead bay and pick up some hero's and we would take his little cousin to jones beach or fire island and we would set up a table with chess set on it a jug of gin and tonic and some sodas for the kid and we would play chess all day in the sun at the beach. then tom and i would go to the edge of the water and look for a girl. tom had this thing about blonde california looking girls and he wanted me to find him this girl and i would look and look and he would smile sheepishly and we would slowly move up to her as the wind was blowing through her long blonde hair and we could see the sand on her arms and her radiant face and i had to make the introduction because tom was a little shy. i miss tom, wish i could talk to him again.
