I Left My Transmission Fluid in Cuba

- EvilGentleman - Saturday, September 16th, 2006 : goo

Well, I'm not sure if it was Cuba or not. It depends on whether reserved diplomatic parking spots on the city streets are accorded the same diplomatic status as the consular buildings are.

My radiator was replaced the other day, and it turned out that the old hose connecting the transmission fluid line to the radiator had worn out on the inside, so when it was reinstalled on the new radiator, it was extremely weak. When the car was returned to me, I was driving on Decarie, heading towards Cote St Luc, when all of a sudden, there was fluid spraying all over the place, causing my engine to smoke heavily.

I pulled over into the first spot I found, which turned out to be the reserved diplomatic parking spot for the Cuban consulate.

image 15703
My transmission fluid poured out, leaving an ugly mess in the diplomatic parking spot.

image 15704
With little else to do while I wait for the tow truck, I start wandering around taking pictures, starting with the consulate.

A closer view of the consulate.

image 15706
I see someone was doing a graf walk along the fire escapes across the other side of Decarie.

image 15707
I found the patterns of decay along the walls here to be interesting.

Finally, the tow truck arrives, and my car gets loaded on the truck.

Just my luck, it was Friday, and my mechanic was off till Monday. On Monday, he had a look at it. Turned out that the hose had ruptured, and unfortunately, transmission hoses are somewhat specialized, so I had to get a new one from the Subaru dealer and bring it to my mechanic on Tuesday. It took four days to get my car back again, but it seems to run better now.

evilg; has castro even been to this office?
clever how you blocked out your license plate numbers. now were now really certain this is your car.

EvilGentleman: 18th Sep 2006 - 01:53 GMT

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Castro has been to this office. He was in Montreal for the funeral of his friend, former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau in 2000. I can't imagine a head of state visiting a foreign city for an official function and not visiting the local consulate of his own nation.

Obviously, I am using stolen licence plates taken from a vehicle registered to the CIA, and do not wish to be attacked by a CIA/KGB hit squad for my crime. Besides, if you could see my plate numbers, would you then be sure it was my vehicle? What databases do you have access to, joey? Who do you work for? Can I convince you to turn double-agent? I shall never surrender, not until my camera is pried from my cold, unfeeling fingers. And even then, I may have left xD memory cards with startegic information in various locations around the globe. Or did I transfer the data to minidiscs or even 5¼" floppies? Will you ever know for sure? Only I have the answers.
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

evilg; knows his history- Death and state funeral of Pierre Trudeau
Foreign dignitaries also attended, including Cuban President Fidel Castro, former U.S. president Jimmy Carter and the Aga Khan, who were among the pallbearers, together with the poet and songwriter Leonard Cohen. 'thank god for the wikipedia'

EvilGentleman: 18th Sep 2006 - 06:27 GMT

Actually, what burned the whole image of Castro at Trudeau's funeral into my mind were the clips of a smiling Fidel Castro having a cheerful conversation with Jimmy Carter. The rest, I really had no clue, to be honest. Although I remember that Trudeau's son gave an inspiring, emotional speech at the funeral that I thought was going to launch the kid into politics, Kennedy-style.

Sirhcbre: 18th Sep 2006 - 16:10 GMT

I remember that speech. My grandmother said "that boy is going to be prime minister one day".

What's he doing now?

One of the boys is a writer and has been published in macleans a few times .He also is involved in other world issues . The other Trudeau? Got me
But on similar subject . Isnt it funny that Mr Trudeau's sons are well involved in social issues , and Mulroneys kid is doing canadian idol, LOL, I guess the apple doesnt fall far from the tree after all..

EvilGentleman: 18th Sep 2006 - 22:07 GMT

Didn't one of the Trudeau boys die in a skiing accident a few years back?

Grange: 19th Sep 2006 - 03:29 GMT

I lost a muskrat fur hat in DJ's Pub on Crescent Street in Montreal in 1994. Anyone seen it?

EvilGentleman: 29th Sep 2006 - 05:22 GMT

I drove by the Cuban consulate yesterday. My transmission fluid still stains their parking spot. Damn, I never realized how durable that stuff is. Makes me wonder if used transmission fluid bottles should be disposed of as hazardous materials.

Ex-Montrealer: 30th Sep 2006 - 02:31 GMT

Drive a manual stick and these things won't happen!

EvilGentleman: True, but burnt clutches suck, too.

I miss that old station wagon. It got pretty good mileage. My current ride, a 1990 Pontiac TransSport van, is pretty hard on gas, so my long cruises are are a lot more rare nowadays. Oh well, maybe one of these days, I will be able to afford something better.

crazy... this same exact thing just happened to my car. i took it to get looked at and they said i have transmission fluid in my coolant... so all i need it a new hose and my radiator flushed????
