Not sure exactly where in the city this was taken but I'm pretty sure it was in the borough of Mercier Hochelaga-Maisonneuve on the east end. It was taken while cruising around the city with EvilGentleman. Getting across the road to the store was very difficult and caused a weird look from a policeman patrolling the area.

are commissioned (i.e. legal) pieces technically graffitti?

Sirhcbre: 10th Sep 2006 - 05:46 GMT

It depends on your interpretation of the word. Is graffiti an art style or is it an action (illegally leaving your mark on property that is not yours). I tend to lean to the latter( which contradicts the title of my article but I also believe the former to an extent as well).

i push base: 10th Sep 2006 - 07:43 GMT

legal pieces is still graff. i know some gully niggas that did legal walls. you gonna tell me a legal ghost ris wall aint graff? of course you wont nigga, you aint stupid.

EvilGentleman: 10th Sep 2006 - 09:29 GMT

The pics are worth every bit of the weird look the cop gave us, man. And I'm glad to see I was wrong about the sun muffing your shots. Good job, and good call. Just imagine what shots you could take with a real camera.

Sirhcbre: 10th Sep 2006 - 15:11 GMT

I'm surprised at how well they turned out. The colour is pretty close to how it really looked despite the sun.

Don't remind me about what could be done with a real camera.

colavitos ghost: 10th Sep 2006 - 15:43 GMT

i wasn't necessarily arguing either way, i was just curious about what people thought. i think you're right, sirhcbre, it's a personal interpretation.

SCAM28: 10th Sep 2006 - 15:57 GMT

Well...actually graffiti, I believe, by defintion is merely the application of a medium to a surface ;)...so I guess the legal question might not apply here...however, I might be misinformed...

Well I think graffiti is illegal and legal, It's used for both. Still, it also depends on what YOU call it.

EvilGentleman: 2nd Mar 2007 - 03:08 GMT

As far as the location goes, all I can recall was that it was on Sherbrooke Street between Honore-Beaugrand and Georges-V. I also remember the pavement in this picture is about 4 to 6 feet higher than the road next to it, and that you were facing SSW when you took the picture, although if you navigate by the directions on the road signs, you were facing west, with Sherbrooke street to your right. I guess we will have to go back and take another look. Maybe they have changed the graf since then.

EvilGentleman: 2nd Mar 2007 - 03:26 GMT

Ahhh, the fun of internet searches and Google Earth. It's at 9280 Sherbrooke Street East, at the corner of Aubry. The graf faces Aubry Street.
