makes you wonder if there are any stores open on euclid ave. downtown there.

Sirhcbre: 7th Sep 2006 - 03:28 GMT

I was just reading about euclid ave the other day. The book is about 8 years old so things may have changed? What is the street like now in 2006? The book didn't have much good to say.

Sirhcbre: 7th Sep 2006 - 03:28 GMT

...not bad about the street itself, just about how the city was dealing with it.

colavitos ghost: 8th Sep 2006 - 14:08 GMT

well, euclid avenue's not in wonderful shape right now. however, things are looking significantly better than they were five years ago.

good stuff:
1)the rta is redesigning the roadway itself to improve public transportation and bike access up and down euclid.
2)cleveland state university has restored and/or built a number of quality structures along its stretch of euclid (including a 17-story art deco tower that's been converted to student housing).
3) euclid ave is still home to cleveland's "playhouse square," the second largest theater complex in the entire united states.
4) there are plans for city offices to re-inhabit the wonderful cleveland trust rotunda and tower (designed by marcel breuer)

now don't get me wrong, there is still a lot wrong with euclid avenue and it will NEVER again be what it once was. that said, i think the city and developers are doing an okay--sorta slow and steady--job of bringing some life back to the once great avenue.

dont forget the house of blues colaGhost. corparate america is betting on the resurgence of euclid, or at least saying that space there is undervalued.

it's really just a scrawl on an electrical box but I know where I am when I pass it and I love to watch the daylight change on the reflective surface. sometimes it makes the script fade to negative space. ...
