If you take a walk along Kings College Road near the UNB/STU campus, you might sneak a peak of something a little, well... a little off behind the war-time cottage style homes that line its quiet streets. It looks like a big white box. I decided to investigate.
I found a street that would take me behind the houses along Kings College which then led me to Squires Street:
It's ordinary enough, lots of mature trees and bland one and two story bungalows probably built sometime in the 70s or 80s. As you go up the hill a little bit you'll see this house:
Nothing out of the ordinary here, just a plain house, probably occupied by a government bureaucrat or a mall store franchise owner. We don't care about this house though, it's only context. However, look over to the right, this is our subject today.
Turn your head just a bit; something is a little different here:
Yeah, this doesn't fit in at all.
At this point, I'm quite perplexed. Why does this house exist? And who occupies it? Unfortunately, I'm not quite brave enough today to find out and nobody appears to be home so it shall remain a mystery.
Let's move on. Ah, the monotony of suburbia continues.

A hydroponic pot growing site, perhaps? Not too many windows and none of any size to be noted. Then again, less windows would reduce the costs of both heating and air conditioning, so maybe it is a self-sufficent house, powered by geothermal wells and solar power.

it's not a house at all. obviously it's a ufo hangar. look at pictures #4 & #5 : the little aliens drive into the garage on the right, gain access to the left building through a secret passage behind the fence, get into their ufo, and leave via the propped-open trapdoor on the left rooftop...

It has lots of windows - just not facing the street. They mostly face south. I believe I get a net gain from solar energy.
It exists to provide shelter for the owner and his family.
Chris is a bit fuzzy on his history. Squires Street was developed in the late 50's and early 60's. This house was built in 1978.
It was designed by Peter Fellows of Fellows&Co, Fredericton.
The solar energy collection system is no longer functional and never was economic.
Upstairs the house has 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a laundry room and a sauna. On the ground floor are a living room, dining room kitchen, family room and washroom. The basement is partially finished.

Ive seen that house!! Its so odd to come to a website with pictures of things you know but posted by a person you never knew existed!!

I find it very cool when either unknown people who are subjects of articles here or the owners of buildings likewise depicted, stumble upon the photos here and leave comments.
