Cloudburst at Steinway Street

- Catherine Penfold-Waxman - Friday, August 11th, 2006 : goo

Last night I took the N train home. As we came out of the tunnel into Queens Plaza, I saw a thunderstorm coming over Manhattan towards Astoria. Lightning was chasing the train in a very Stephen King fashion. I should mention that the N is on an elevated train track, about two stories high, made of iron. Every time the lightning flashed and thunder pealed, everyone on the train shuddered. The full force of the rain and lightning hit just as I got off the train. It was astounding. I hid in a coffee shop for about 20 minutes until there was a lull. A fake lull. 'Cos I got half a block and sheets of water came bucketing down. It was even raining under my umbrella.

Kato: Send the rain, I'm panting my paws off.

With this much rain, you'd wash into the Agean.

Now I have some welly boots for the next downpour.
