Smoke in Helsinki

We were two tourists in downtown Helsinki, enjoying the clean air and susurration of Swedish, Finnish, and other assorted tourists' tongues.
The sky suddenly became very dark, attracting our attention, and we stepped out of our tourist's pace into that of the curious witness of some spectacle-- my first thought was that a bomb had gone off, though no one seemed in a panic--only a few people rushed away while others rushed toward the site in an only moderately disorderly fashion.

Two parked cars, it seems, had caught fire and spread the word in black air all over the city centre. Only their frames remained, smoking above us and the other gawking onlookers.
Taken & witnessed in August, 2005.

that sort of thing goes on everyday in newark, new jersey.

Chris Erb: 27th Jul 2006 - 19:14 GMT

What had caused the accident? Was anyone hurt?

Marlo: 27th Jul 2006 - 19:25 GMT

No one seemed to be hurt, and I don't know what caused the fire. Firefighters came quickly, but there was no ambulance.

Jack-- do you think the people in Newark are at all affected by this sort of thing, if it is so common?

jack: 28th Jul 2006 - 02:12 GMT

its entertainment to them. on night around 11:30 i was driving in newark fron a clients home and i noticed a flame in a car. i slowed down and saw the flames starting to really get big and i saw an old lady standing across the street just watching it. she probably had it in for the owner of the car. hey, look at it this way in newark two cars burning is called a bbq.

This is probably my favorite set from the whole trip. Through the window we have a partial view of the Cleveland skyline. That's Key Tower in the center there, which, at 947 feet, is the tallest building between...
