Bike Getting a Ticket - on a Highway
[previous] :: [next]I saw this guy standing in front of the cops truck and I thought he was getting some kind of assistance from the cop. You know like some kind of highway helper thing.
But why would the cop block traffic on a fairly busy suburban highway.
Well the the cop gets out of the cab and gives the guy a piece of paper which I assume was a ticket.
And then he sticks it in his pocket and heads off.
Being a cyclist I get pissed when I'm trying to follow the rules and act like a car and I see other cyclist who don't. Of course cars assume we're going to run the stop light/sign because of guys like this("you bikes never stop.") Maybe the cop finally had enough and gave him a ticket. Some guy who was riding slowly kept running red lights every chance he got. The process would go like this: I'd pass him. Hit a red light. He'd run in. Repeat. So I come up to one intersection with a delayed green in my direction, stop behind a bicycle cop at the red light. I wonder if they guy coming up from behind is going to run the red or if he would notice the cop and actually stop. After he runs the red light the cop looks around, turns to me and says: "Kind of makes me wonder why I'm sitting here." I kind of laugh and say "yeah" but then I think: "Wait, whatthefuck? Give the guy a ticket, jackass!" Kind of makes me wonder why I follow the rules. colavitos ghost: 27th Jul 2006 - 02:22 GMTi love running red lights on my bike. for me, half the fun of riding a bike is the fact that i don't follow the same rules as the schmucks driving cars. and if car-drivers get upset about it, ummmm, i don't really care. of course, bicycle vs. car crashes are terrible things, but plenty of rules can be broken on a bike without putting oneself in grave danger. f*ck a car. ride a bike.
