Cherry and the Spoon

- Tyfoid Kid - Thursday, July 20th, 2006 : goo

Just off of downtown is the Walker Art Center and it has a sculpture garden out front. This is THE Cherry and the Spoon. It's also a fountain (water shoots from the stem) One of the more photographed sites in town.

I couldn't resist the desaturation trick on this one.

this reminds me of claes oldenburg's oversized sculptures of shuttlecocks and clothespins. www.nelson-atkins.org/art/CollectionDatabase.cfm?id=30296&theme=kcsp

i'm also reminded of an old tv show on muchmusic (canada's mtv) called mike & mike's excellent cross-canada adventures in which the mikes often visited small towns with strange monuments like a giant perogie on a giant fork.

Jeeff, it is an Oldenburg sculpture garden.walkerart.org/artwork.wac
I was doing the Seattle to Portland bike ride two weekends ago and one of the towns on the second day had what they claimed was the worlds largest egg. There it was up on this pedestal.

juliana: it reminds me of pie

When i first came into the country i felt lost until i saw this sculpture. It reminded me of our village symbol of heart on a spoon. I love America because of this monument.

This certian piece of art work inspired me, it made me belive I was home, that i could cook as good as my mother. :)
