Viva Italia! World Cup Champions, 2006

- EvilGentleman - Monday, July 10th, 2006 : goo

[previous] :: [next]

In my wife's office building, there is a small restaurant on the ground floor that has been World Cup central for the last month or so at least. Louie, the proprietor, has been cheering his beloved Italy from day one, while graciously allowing flags and banners from competing teams to join his Italian flags that adorn the walls of the restaurant. (Good grief, I just realized, I never photographed this! Maybe when I drop my wife off tomorrow...)

Yesterday was Louie's big day. Joyous beyond belief would be my best guess as to how he must have felt. Many fans had to seek refuge, as the power went out in certain parts of downtown midway through the game. But in the end, everyone was able to watch as Italy triumphed, and the celebrations began. I have no clue how he managed it, but Louie appeared at work wide awake and cheerful this morning.

Myself, I was even afraid to drive downtown till a few hours later, since I was hearing horror stories of previous World Cup traffic jams in the downtown core. So at the moment, all I have are two pics, but here they are. I had no clue there were so many Italians in Montreal.

These exuberant fans were playing the Italian national anthem through louspeakers as they came downtown off of the Ville Marie Expressway yesterday.

I found this van this morning after dropping my wife off at work. I would never have believed using a flag this size on a family vehicle was possible.

Classic Cars 3 - 1936 Chevy

I am really unsure if I have labeled this one correctly... 1936 Chevrolet two-door sedan Some research on the hood ornament is what led me to think this is a 1936 Chevy. Such a tiny rear-view mirror
