The Flying Foundation Stone
Browsing articles by Andrewsmith - [previous] :: [next]This Foundation Stone, dating 1896, was found by locals in River Goyt when it was running low a few years back.
On investigating, they found it to have been from a school in North Manchester, approx 15 miles away. The area the school was in was cleared during slum clearing operations, though they are not quite sure how the foundation stone ended up in a river in Stockport! It reads "This stone was laid on July 22nd 1896 by the Right Reverand James Moorehouse, Lord Bishop of Manchester" It now rests next to the river for the curious to ponder.
