Bridge Seat
[previous] :: [next]Walked across this bridge many times between the west and east bank campus. It used to be closed because it was still just a railroad bridge.
I had friends who went to school here and they said you could do the walk across putting a foot on each tie ala the kids from that movie Stand By Me if you were brave enough (or late enough for a class.) They made it into a pedestrian bridge about 8 years ago. Looks like that would have been a pretty long, slow walk.
Looked over the railing in the middle of the river and here's a seat with a great view.
The view from the chair
and low and behold down below was among other things
a bike
and on the other side was a birds nest. I'd have to guess a Canadian Goose since the eggs are so big.
Instead of stopping to smell the flowers I'll have to remember to stop and look over the edge from time to time. There's a plaque on the bridge saying it's the longest pedestrian bridge in the world. How true that is remains to be seen. jamie: 6th Jun 2006 - 19:48 GMTtel me you didin't sit in the chair? that's a pretty dangerous chair to be sitting in Tyfoid Kid: 6th Jun 2006 - 21:15 GMTIn the 5th picture down you can see the other pedestrian bridge (the Washington Ave Bridge) that connects the East and West Banks of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. This bridge is denoted as a bikeway on this campus map onestop.umn.edu/Maps/mpls.jpg Jamie - Carla: 21st Aug 2006 - 18:51 GMTOh good, I'm glad you didn't sit on that chair! I'll bet that's a stolen bike down there. Comment on this article[previous] :: [next] |
