what do you think?

Peter: 31st May 2006 - 19:45 GMT

is "river park" an actual park, or is it (as it appears to be from the style of signage) some sort of suburban subdivision?

jeeff: 31st May 2006 - 21:58 GMT

its a bunch of slightly shabby riverside apartments (like townhouses).

Peter: 31st May 2006 - 22:25 GMT

yeah, thats what i thought... in which case, i think:

a) this was probably done by a bored lower-middleclass white guy in his late teens who cant find anywhere better to get up than the sign to his community, and out of frustration, figured hed tag up the sign.

b) he is apparently not aware that most writers know, as second nature, to abide to a certain standard that dictates not bombing private homes, places of worship or private (as in, non-delivery vans/trucks) vehicles (and im sure theres posts on this very site that show an example of each of these being violated, ha).

so, a tacky act on his part.

but, a good thought provoking post on your part... thanks.

jeeff: 31st May 2006 - 23:06 GMT

funny you mention places of worship, another snare tag was spotted on the sign of the neighbourhood's recently-closed church.

SingleGuy: 21st Jun 2006 - 07:11 GMT

If bored kids want to spray paint things why don't they go to an abandoned industrial area and do it? Because here the tag means something. it means u can do what you please here, there is no risk to getting caught. you can spray paint. you can break-in. you can swarm people. the tag is an advertisement that thugs have the upper hand in this area. it's community intimidation. frankly i dont think it matters if it was a "bored middle class white kid". bored middle class white kids have been pretending to be thugs for so long now that their actually turning into them.

SNARE.ONE F1C: 9th Nov 2007 - 17:34 GMT

River Park is actually a small washed-up grouping of dated townhomes adjacent Watson Park along Wellington. Part of this area IS abandoned. That was the second letter I recieved for tags in this area. Never got a chance to read this one.

If it was so bad then why did it run for two years?
If you were so concerned then why didn't you spend about as much time as I did and take it off?

Those people have handstyles on the front doors of their homes...and they WEREN'T done by me.

Anyways, it is called vandalism.

Whatup Oscar, Whatup Down....

Jeeff:

The church had been deserted at the time it was done. The signs gone now as well.

Peter: 9th Nov 2007 - 21:22 GMT

so snare: are you indeed a bored lower-middleclass white guy in your late teens?

jeeff: 11th Nov 2007 - 00:57 GMT

indeed it is. my parents live right around the corner, and i happen to be visiting them now. anyway, i just thought the letter was interesting, especially since it's stuck on the sign too.

Peter:

No, in fact I'm lower than that. But I do wish I was still a teenager.

SNARE,ONE F1C: 2nd Dec 2007 - 04:02 GMT

Not really bored at all really.

Yeah, I wish I was a teenager as well.

Are you the same Peter everyone wants to smoke blunts with?

SNARE.ONE F1C: Thaks for tryin Anon-.
