Why do they tell you to get there 15 minutes before your appointment and then don't show up until 15 minutes (or more) after they dump you in the exam room with NOTHING to do!! Sure I check out the cupboards and such but you can only swipe so many rubber gloves, tounge depressors and gigantic wooden q-tips. And that sharps box would be more fun if it didn't smell funny.

This looks like every doctor's office I've ever been in. Is there some sort of guide that says how exactly to build a doctor's office and every hospital in North America has to follow it?

Just be grateful you're not there for some sort of invasive test where you have to put your feet up in - you know what - and they have left a huge tray of shiny, cold instruments that will be used (in just a few minutes) for you to gaze at. And on top of it, this was a first time for this experience. You were lucky to be bored!!
