wow, thats crazy how empty, desolate everything looks... but so pretty and well-tended. good shots... so where is everyone? manchester is a large city...

elaine: 23rd May 2006 - 17:50 GMT

in their beds, getting up, brushing their teeth, eating coco pops, watching morning tv (big brother is on just now, so that will be some of it) having their first pee, having their first bowel movement, making coffee, making tea, hitting the snooze button, listening to men arguing on radio 4, listening to soothing people on radio 2, listening to pop music on other radio stations... um...

it just strikes me as odd. cause here in nyc, you never see a single block so abandoned looking when its that light outside, heh.

jack: 23rd May 2006 - 19:25 GMT

could it have been taken on a sunday morning? i wish there were some comments on each pic, it was very interesting seeing those pics.

Myke: 23rd May 2006 - 23:36 GMT

Thanks for the comments every one. Jack it was indeed a Sunday morning.

Pic 1: The Beetham Tower. Designed by Ian Simpson Architects, this building is nearly completed and will house a new Hilton hotel and luxury aparments on the upper floors.

Pic 2: Taken nearby, above Deansgate Locks, a popular night spot on the canal.

Pics 3, 4 & 5: Market Street, on weekdays this place is busy. On Saturdays it's very busy. I've never seen it this dead.

Pics 6, 7 & 8: Taken in Exchange Square, also a very busy area of Manchester city centre.

Pic 9: The entrance to URBIS, the exhibition centre of urban living.

Pic 10: The Triangle shopping centre, formerly the cities corn exchange. The opposite side of the building is on Exchange Square.

Pic 11: Manchester Cathedral, next door to the Triangle.

Pic 12: URBIS, in the city's Millennium Quarter. On weekends this area is usually full of teenagers hanging out.

Pic 13: The front of the Selfridges store in Exchange Square. Usually a lot of people seated in front of it or passing through.

Pic 14: One of the two Adidas stores in Manchester.

Andrew Smith: 24th May 2006 - 12:39 GMT

Worth getting up early for Myke - great stuff again.

Myke: Thank you Andrew!

I have just been doing some family research and have discovered that my grandmother (who I never knew) and her family (1800s) all came from Deansgate, (Alliance and Leicester building) 7,Liverpool Road, (building site), 39, Little Peter Street (new apartments) and Great Bridgewater Street (Hilton Hotel). They all got married in the Great Bridgewater Street Wesleyan Chapel. Maybe its under the Hilton Hotel? Thanks for all the beautiful photos.
