Things I Love About... Living in the City

- EvilGentleman - Wednesday, May 17th, 2006 : goo

[previous] :: [next]

Most of my childhood was spent moving from one Canadian Air Force base to the next, with frequent visits to see my grandmother in my hometown of , located across the river from . Almost every air base I lived on was located in a rural part of the country, so I always looked forward to going home for a visit, since there were so many wonderful things to experience in the city. I think most of us here on citynoise have things we love about the urban world, so why not put together a page where we can share these things, including the many "little things" that have yet to appear in a photo post.

This post is the first of my series, although I must give credit to Micah, whose Things I Love About Public Transit article was the first to see the positive flipside of my series.

LIVING IN THE CITY

1 - No matter what time of day or night it is, there is always something interesting going on
2 - Always getting first shot at buying new exciting products
3 - Less prejudice
4 - The various delicious smells coming from the restaurants in multicultural neighbourhoods
5 - Lots of interesting people to meet
6 - Not having to go far away to find what you need
7 - If you do something silly, the whole city will not be gossiping about you the next day
8 - Sidewalk vendors
9 - Decent libraries
10 - Being able to use public transit systems
11 - People-watching
12 - First-run theaters
13 - Much less likely to smell farm animals
14 - Those chance encounters with strangers that open your eyes and stimulate your mind
15 - Meeting people from all over the world
16 - Bike paths
17 - Music concerts
18 - Festivals
19 - Parades
20 - Better medical care
21 - Art galleries
22 - Finding "private" places in the midst of chaos

No problem. One must always remember to give credit where credit is due.

i really just plain dont like living in the city. I like the job opportunities though and that's why I'm here. I like nature and peace and quite more than concrete and traffic.

The Destruction of Benny Farm

Last November, I drove by the complex and saw that they have demolished some of the buildings on Benny Avenue that I explored here. The basements of the old buildings are being removed. The demolished buildings are circled in red...
