Black Bird

- Elicar - Monday, May 8th, 2006 : goo

To paraphrase the Beatles…”Black bird singing in the light of day."

The weather has been great, so I have busied myself in my backyard: cleaning, replacing the perennials that did not survive the winter and adding some more. I had this bird for a company two days in a row: perched on my neighbour’s telephone line and my other neighbour’s the old TV antennae. Is that an omen?

I think the he is trying to tell me something.

I might as well include my spring flowers.

Nice blackbird. I love the curious creatures that turn up to watch you in your garden. Maybe your labours will throw up a worm or unearth some other morsel.

blackbirds like a bit of a sing. they go really high up to do it, i saw one the other day tweeting away like nobody's business. i have a pair that come to my windowledge to feed, which surprised me, because they are worm eaters. turns out they jump around on the ground to fake the feel of rain to make worms come up. must have been thin pickings worm wise, cos they've been up here scoffing sunflower seed hearts with the rest of them.

Can they eat my neighbour's cats? The use my fowerbeds as their kitty litter. There is not but one but three of them. I don't want to end up in a post like this. I love cats, don't get me wrong. I use to have one, but they are not too nice to my plant-lings right now!

elaine: 10th May 2006 - 08:44 GMT

i don't think so. they don't even flock, and they are not all that big. plus, cats don't live underground, though it is true they don't like rain. but a blackbird doing his raindance is more likely to be the gobblee than the gobbler with a cat for breakfast.

awesome blackbird pictures. makes me have a song running through my mind "blackbird singing in the dead of night...take those broken wings and learn to fly"

drea: 12th May 2006 - 06:15 GMT

I'm luving the picture of the "skull in the sky".

n3onflash: beautiful.
