there is plenty that drives me nuts about long island, but sometimes, and these unfortunately are not the best pictures i have to illustrate my point, sometimes i don't mind the fact that i'm not in manhattan.

Nice pictures. I particularly like the one looking across the water at the harbour.

I have visited Greenport, Long Island. I found it very quaint, very lovely and very rich! The parking lot of the waterfront condo we stayed in looked like a showroom for luxury cars. I will go back there, again!

jeeff: that 2nd-last photo is very idyllic indeed.

i lived in huntington/dix hills area for the first 18 years of my married life. we raised 4 children there and enjoyed the most beautiful beaches in the world. the north shore is magnificently called the gold coast because of its beauty. my wife and kids would go to the beach on the north shore overlooking long island sound and collect mussels and she would bring the mussels home and cook them for me in this delicious tomato sauce and i would be in heaven.

for the curious, these pictures are from patchogue, montauk, 2 from a corn maze in quogue, and stony brook, respectively. jack - i agree, the beaches are beautiful, and i've seen pictures of mansions on the gold coast from the turn of the century. i rarely go to the beach, but as a kid i would ride my bike to the dock in that first picture every day during the summer to go fishing and crabbing, and i have a lot of fond memories of it.

I've got to get out of town more! Beautiful sky.

iman: 7th Apr 2007 - 17:05 GMT

l.u., i'm from long island and i know where you got the last picture. in Port Jefferson right, near the hospital?

iman: man, i miss those views.

iman: and the first one was from mastic beach, right?

little ukraine: 7th Apr 2007 - 20:00 GMT

actually, the last one is from stony brook, right near the grist mill, and the first one is from patchogue, but i can see how you would confuse the views. i did try to choose pictures that were representative of many parts of long island, so i'm glad it seems i accomplished that.

iman: 8th Apr 2007 - 13:40 GMT

that's still pretty good man. thanks for the childhood memories.

iman: 8th Apr 2007 - 18:59 GMT

the third and forthwere definitely in riverhead or baiting hollow. did i get those right?

little ukraine: 9th Apr 2007 - 01:03 GMT

could be, it was a corn maze somewhere out east, along 25 I think. quogue, according to my earlier comment, so that's what i'll stick with.

iman: 15th Apr 2008 - 17:07 GMT

and the second one had to be from rocky point or sound beach
